Student’s Prank Brings Police to Dunbar

No one was in danger at any time, but the fake phone call disrupted school for a short period of time.

Several fire trucks and police could be seen outside of Dunbar around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 2. In a letter home to families, Principal Rains explained why.

A student made a prank call to 911. Ms. Rains said, “While some may think this is a joke, making a false report to law enforcement officials is a crime under state law.”

According to Ms. Rains, the student was identified and will be held accountable.

“I assure you that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” she said.

The nature of the call has not been revealed, but it was enough to bring at least one fire truck and several police cars to the building.

“I saw them outside, and was wondering what was going on,” sophomore Jada Jackson said.

Ms. Rains stated that the students and staff were never in any real danger, but that she and the other administrators and school resource officers are taking the situation very seriously.

She wants parents to do the same.

“We ask you to take this opportunity to remind your student that situations like this are extremely serious. While some may think this is a joke, making a false report to law enforcement officials is a crime under state law. We will not tolerate disruption of the learning environment,” she said.
