Summer Fashion Trends

May 28, 2019

Summer is the time of year to get out of your comfort zone and wear whatever you want. Many trends are on the rise. For women, it depends on what look you are going for. For instance, if you're going out for the night, consider wearing a colorful romper or jumpsuit. For something more casual, jeans and a strappy top can always be a go-to. A safer choice can be running shorts and an over sized T-...

A 2019 Met Gala Play-by-Play

May 7, 2019

The Met Gala is the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. This event not only kicks off the opening of the exhibit but it also acts as fashion’s biggest day. Being the Met Gala’s biggest fan, I always watch the event and I always come up with a few interesting thoughts. I decided that this year I would finally keep a diary of my reactions. So with my face mask...

T-shirt or sweater? Shorts or pants? Sandals or sneakers? Spring is about that time of the year when you’re in that awkward transition trying to figure out what to wear and still be comfortable outside. It might be thirty degrees in the morning and then mid-seventies in the afternoon. With this drastic change in temperature, you don’t want to be stuck outside sweating in a large coat. By making...

New Trend: Chacos

New Trend: Chacos

February 2, 2015

The new popular footwear that is sweeping the nation seems to be the Chaco sandal. What some say are “ugly and should never be worn,” are in my opinion the fashion industries next big thing. “You don’t have to be a hipster to wear Chacos, you just have to have an outdoors interest to wear them around,” said senior James Bryant. What started out to be just another pair of sandals is...

Teens Stop Shopping at Abercrombie and Fitch

November 22, 2013

Abercrombie and Fitch is a brand that teens begged for a few years ago because it was exclusive and a cool label. But recently, it isn’t unusual to see a tweet or Facebook post making fun of the once popular store. The kids who used to pay an unreasonable price for the brand are now sarcastically requesting a gas mask and flashlight before entering the dark, perfume filled abode of Abercrombie...

Men’s Fall Fashion Trends

Jacob Blevins, Staff Reporter

October 21, 2013

As a member of the male community here at Dunbar, I have faced my share of challenges when it comes to fashion. I have diagnosed myself with “fashion-phobia.” The symptoms include failure to match and an inclination to wear sweatpants every day. By surrounding myself with outspoken females I have managed to recognize and overcome many of my challenges. Several small changes, such as wearing clothing that fits, can make a world of difference for us clueless guys. A nice outfit is no good if it doesn’t fit correctly. Dressing rooms were invented for this very reason. Asking an employee at the store for help can...

In with the Old, Out with the New

Erin Pyle, Online Editor

October 21, 2013

Confession: I am a shopaholic. It is pretty bad, but at least I can admit it, right? After admitting this and thinking about it for a few days, I made the decision that I am not going to buy any new clothes, shoes or jewelry until Christmas. Not only is this going to be extremely difficult for me to not shop, but it is also going to be a challenge for me to create outfits with only my existing clothes because practically everyone at Dunbar has seen all my clothes already. I mean, I have gone to school with those people all of my life. I want to wear new, fun outfits this year, but how can I do this if I am not buying...
