Teacher Pension Arguments to be Televised

Senate Bill 151 was widely protested last year after it was attached as a rider to a sewage bill.

The Kentucky Supreme Court will hear oral arguments presented by Attorney General Andy Beshear and the Governor’s legal counsel at 10 a.m. on Sept. 20, concerning the appeal of Franklin County Circuit Court Judge Phillip Shepherd’s ruling that Senate Bill 151 was unconstitutional.

The hearing will be live streamed.

This is only the second time in history that there has been a statewide broadcast of a Kentucky Supreme Court hearing. The first broadcast was in 1989 when the court ruled that Kentucky’s education system was unconstitutional and led to the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA).

The Kentucky Education Association (KEA) is planning a “wear red for ed” day for faculty and staff in Kentucky’s public school systems on Thursday.
