Becoming Editor-in-Chief
After the initial excitement of the win died down a bit, the nerves began to set in.
Recently I was chosen to become one of the Editors-in-Chief (EIC) of PLD’s school media program. While I couldn’t be more excited, I am also nervous about what next year holds.
This year I was the Human Resources Editor for PLD Lamplighter. It was a fun job where I got to work with everyone on staff and be a part of an amazing Editorial Board. As I started to think about becoming a senior next year, I decided that I wanted to go for the Editor-in-Chief position. After a long and tiring selection process, I was given one of the spots.
I have had a great EIC this year, so how will I be able to keep up the good work? My older sister was a superstar EIC in her day, so how could I live up to her? Will my co-EIC’s like me and will we work well as a team?
These thoughts swirled around in my mind for a very long time, and some of them still concern me. However, as I start to have more and more meetings with the new editors and we come up with great ideas of how we could make this program even more amazing, my nerves have decreased by a significant amount.
Recently, as per tradition, the old editors passed the torch to the new editors for next year.
In that moment, as I was being passed the flame and the flame was being passed to my fellow editors, I felt confident. I didn’t see a group of nervous or detached teenagers who didn’t care, I saw a group of individuals with a certain fire in their eyes, ready to make our program spectacular.
I have been extremely blessed to be able to work with everyone in this program, but I am even more blessed because I am going to be working with such a great ed board next year. While we all have our visions for what we think the program should and could be, I know that in the end it will all come together in the most cohesive way possible.
So, even though I am still nervous about taking on such a big responsibility, realizing that I am going to be working with my tribe, or better yet my family, I could not be more excited to be one of the 2019-2020 Lamplighter Editor-in-Chiefs.
I'm Eleanor Davis and I am a Senior at Dunbar. This year marks my third year on staff and I am fortunate enough to be one of the Editors-in-Chief for Lamplighter....
