Urban and Rural Lifestyles and Their Differences
Only 19.3% of people live in Rural areas, in the United States leaving the remaining 80% of people living in the city, and there is a huge difference in population between the two. An example of this is the United States. 97% of the land is rural, meaning that 80% of Americans are crammed into the remaining 3% of the land that is urban.
Currently, the largest city in America is New York City with a population of 19,875,625. Only 3% of land in America is inhabited by urban places. New York only takes up a small fraction of that 3% meaning all of those people are crammed together, which allows for the urban place to become too dirty and less appealing to live in.
According to Bill Genzel: “Urban areas are defined as the “census blocks” which has to have a population of at least 1,000 people per square mile. Rural areas are defined by population density, that is, how many people are given in a square mile.”
Although rural and urban places are very different from one another, their incomes are still very similar. “The financial income of farmers has generally caught up with their urban counterparts. But there are still major differences in the lifestyles of urban and rural residents.
Obviously, the physical landscape is different, there are differences in social and cultural identities. There are different levels and kind of economic environment,” Bill Genzel said.
The landscape, for example, is a big difference. Most American cities have a scarce amount of grass with an abundance of people and buildings. In New York, for example, the only real place you can find the grass is in Central Park. If you go out into a more rural area buildings are more scarce and far apart, there is usually an abundance of grass and trees other than winter when there is no grass.
Another difference between the two is the type of things that play on the radio station: country music is normally played in more rural areas, and pop, rap, rock is normally played in urban areas.
Whereas in an urban area there usually tends to be more minorities but there is also more diverse. There are more minorities in that there are more people that have different jobs and have large differences in the amount of money that they make. There is more diversity in Urban areas because there are more jobs and things to do in Urban areas so more people tend to move to them, causing a more diverse population.
It all just depends on what kind of person you are as to what kind of place you will prefer to live.
