Dunbar Track and Field Update

The boys’ and girls’ track teams will compete next on April 22 at Lafayette High School.

The Dunbar boys’ and girls’ track and field teams have kicked off their season.

Last season, the boys’ team came in second overall as a team and their 4×400 meter relay team won the ring at the state championships. A highlight from last year’s season is when Will Allen beat Tyson Gay’s state record in the 100 meter dash. Allen is now a freshman at the University of Alabama, and he runs for the track and field team there.

This year, the track and field teams had their first meet on April 5. According to senior Matt Inman, one of their main goals this season is to become one of the top three teams in the state.

“We have a good chance of winning the 4×800, a mile, 200 and 2 mile so we definitely want to go after those state titles, too,” he said.

The track and field coach, Mr. Jean Balan, said that he believes practice is the key to accomplishing the team’s goals.

“If we come to practice with a positive attitude and the mindset to work, then everything else will fall into place,” he said.
