Mashayla Cecil Signs to EKU
May 29th–After a long process, Mashayla Cecil announced that she will further her academic and athletic career at Eastern Kentucky University.
“I picked EKU simply because it felt like home. I felt as if it was the best fit for me academically and for basketball,” she said.
Cecil leaves Dunbar as the all-time leading scorer for girls, Fayette County’s all-time leading scorer for girls, the 2018 Lexington Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year, 11th Region Player of the Year, first team all-city, and second team all-state. But for all the accolades she’s earned none stand out to her more than Dunbar finally beating Lafayette in the district championship.
“We worked so hard to get to that point…I couldn’t have been more proud of my team,” she said.
Cecil will major in Psychology in the fall.
“I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter of my basketball career at EKU, and getting to meet new amazing people along the way,” she said.
