Football in 2013: A Fresh Start for Dunbar

This season, the Dunbar football team, headed by new Head Coach Paul Rains, hope to continue improving for a winning season.

After defeating Woodford County and East Jessamine, the Bulldogs are 4-2. The team’s previous 2-1 start was their first winning start since 2005.

“The team has gotten much better at discipline and responsibility, and the players are holding each other accountable,” said Coach Rains. “This carries over into each game.”

The team’s upcoming schedule is difficult, but Coach Rains and the players are optimistic that the team will be successful.

“I’m hopeful that we will have a winning season this year, and start to change our image and the overall tradition of Dunbar football,” said senior quarterback Emory Thompson.

The team’s winning start has led them to set big goals for the upcoming seasons as well.

“We hope to be a contender for districts and regionals in the next few years, and get back to the skill level we were at in the late 1990s,” said Coach Rains.

With such high goals, it will take a lot of perseverance and dedication from the team and from Coach Rains, but all the players seem ready to put in the hard work it will take to succeed.
