Dunbar’s School Spirit Store

This year Dunbar’s spirit store, “The Booktique,” is preparing for a busy year of sales, this is what to expect.

The Booktique was established along with Dunbar in 1990. It serves to sell Dunbar spiritwear to the student body during B3 lunches and, this year, has taken over management of the Dunbar Den. Students can purchase sweatshirts, water bottles, umbrellas and other Bulldog merchandise at the main store.

“It started as part of the school’s business program to incorporate school curriculum and… as a school to work program to encourage students to have a school-based learning environment where you can have work experience while at school,” Booktique Manager Mrs. Robin Johnson said.

This year, the Booktique also plans to open a small shop outside the cafeteria where students can stop by on their way to lunch.

Mrs. Johnson said “because we don’t have all the merchandise in, we haven’t established that yet and it’s our goal to have that ready when it comes in in the next two weeks so we’ll have a small shop outside the cafeteria.”

Recently, the Booktique merged with the Dunbar Den and is planning to offer clubs the opportunity to fundraise by selling hot chocolate and coffee on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school starts.

The Booktique’s role in the fundraising process is to provide all of the supplies such as cups, hot chocolate and coffee as well as advertising and financial support while reimbursing the clubs for their part in the fundraising efforts. The club will get their portion of what they sell that month.

Senior Ben Fuller is the Booktique’s Marketing Director. “The Booktique sells Dunbar apparel. We want to sell a quality product students are proud to wear. The Dunbar Den wants to increase funding to the clubs and sports teams of Dunbar through coffee sales,” Fuller said.

The Booktique plans on opening the Dunbar Den soon.
