Athlete Profile: Caleb Clay
Senior Caleb Clay has been playing soccer for 14 years. He said that he started playing in a recreational league at the age of three and really enjoyed it. He has continued playing since then, and currently starts for Dunbar’s varsity soccer team.
As a sophomore, he made the impressive move up to the varsity team. Since then he has played as a left defensive back.
Coached under Mr. Todd Bretz, Clay hopes to win the state championship with the rest of the team, and to earn a state ring. He believes that this will end his high school career on an extremely high note.
“We have the potential to make it far in the state tournament and possibly win it,” said Clay.
His most memorable experience playing soccer at Dunbar was the heartbreaking 1-0 loss to St. Xavier in the state championship during his junior season.
“The feeling of losing a state championship on your home field is indescribable,” said Clay.
This year he believes that the team will redeem itself and win it all by using the loss from last season as motivation to work even harder than before.
As for soccer after high school, “I am keeping my options open and if the opportunity arises for me to play, I’ll probably take it,“ said Clay.
With the team ranked number one in the state, he hopes that they can continue to excel and win the state championship.
