On Nov. 14, Dunbar freshmen and sophomore students attended an assembly to hear from local rapper and activist, Devine Carama.
Although he graduated from Tates Creek High School, Carama said he has a special affinity for Dunbar. “From the moment I walked in the door this morning I was greeted with friendly faces,” he said. “It’s a welcoming community.”
According to Spectrum News Carama has spoken to more than 50,000 students across the country. His topics range from leadership, legacy, power of words, bullying, diversity, inclusion, and more.
His non-profit, Believing in Forever, focuses on resources for kids, most notably an annual coat drive that collects thousands of winter coats for kids in need.
After the assembly, Carama stayed to meet with students, take photos and listen to their stories.
“I want to be a resource for you,” he said.
