Dunbar Lacrosse

Lacrosse has recently gained popularity with high schools around the country that are adding teams. It is also being shown in popular shows like “Teen Wolf.” Dunbar has had a lacrosse team since 2007 and schools in the area like Lafayette and Henry Clay also have teams.

Many lacrosse players are on year-round clubs before playing with Dunbar in the spring. Dunbar’s team begins practicing in late February and the season continues into early May. This season they have won three out of their four games so far.

Senior Anthony Kahly said “A lot of us have played together since middle school, so we know how we play together which helps us win more.”

Most of the team is made of players from last year with the addition of a few new players this year, but that hasn’t hurt how they have played this season. The team won one of their first games this season 16:1 on March 15 when they played Scott County.

“The team grows closer as the year goes on. It makes it really hard when we lose people at the end of the year because we get so used to how everyone plays.” said junior Jerod Cohn.

Many of the seniors have plans to play in college, but as of right now seniors Brandon Smoot and Anthony Kahly are the only players who have confirmed their plans to play in college by signing with Asbury University to play next year. Other players are waiting to announce their decisions until closer to the end of the season.

It isn’t too late to support the lacrosse team this year. They still have five games to play including one against our rival Lafayette on April 15. The game is going to be played at 8:30 in the Dunbar football stadium.

“We always have a great time playing the games, but it would be great to see more familiar faces out there cheering us on.” said senior Anthony Kahly.
