Taylor or Jake?

The release of Red (Taylor’s Version) ignited a debate with people taking sides in the failed relationship between Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Taylor first released Red the album, Oct. 22, 2012.  The fan-favorite song, and her favorite song on the album, is “All Too Well.” The fans quickly figured out that the song was about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal because of hints including the scarf, his sister’s house, and the age gap between them.

The original version of “All Too Well” was 10 minutes long, so Swift had to cut it down in 2012; however, she just released Red (Taylor’s Version) on Nov. 12 with the full 10-minute version restored. She also wrote and directed a short film based on the song “All Too Well” starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien.

Swift loves to use “Easter Eggs” in her songs, and they can be found in her short film. An example is “the scarf.”

In Thanksgiving 2010, Swift was seen going to Jake’s sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s, house with a scarf on. In the song “All Too Well,” she sings: “And I left my scarf there at your sister’s house/And you’ve still got it in your drawer even now.”

There are also photos of Swift and her mom leaving the house without the scarf, and there are paparazzi photos of Jake Gyllenhaal wearing a very similar scarf.

In the short film, Sadie Sink is wearing a red scarf, and at the very end, “Older Jake” (played by Jake Lyon–which is another Easter egg by itself) wearing the red scarf. Swift’s fans also think that this symbolizes her innocence.

Some at Dunbar have taken sides in the Taylor Swift vs Jake Gyllenhaal controversy, and it was overwhelmingly in favor of Swift.
