End-of-Year Schedule Updated by School Board
FCPS Adding 30 Minutes to School Day Beginning April 20
Because we missed seven full days of school and six hours due to delays this winter, the Fayette County Board of Education voted to add 30 minutes to the end of the school day starting April 20. This means that dismissal time for Paul Laurence Dunbar High School will be 3:45 p.m. from April 20-May 29.
Under state law, we are required to attend school for a minimum of 1,062 hours each year and have at least 170 school days. Although the governor declared a state of emergency during some of the days we missed, we must still make up those days.
We will now be in school on April 10, May 28 and May 29; however, May 19 is election day and May 25 is Memorial Day, so school will be closed on those two days.
The last day of school is officially May 29, and Dunbar’s graduation will be at 4 p.m. on May 30 at Rupp Arena.
With the extra 30 minutes, the Dunbar school day will proceed as follows:
First block 8:25 – 10:05
Second block 10:10 – 11:50
Third block 11:55 – 2:00 (first lunch 11:55 – 12:20, second lunch 12:20 – 12:45, third lunch 12:45 – 1:10, fourth lunch 1:10 – 1:35, fifth lunch 1:35 – 2:00).
Fourth block 2:05 – 3:45
