Nuclear Energy is the Future
Nuclear energy benefits over other energy sources.
Many people are starting to see why nuclear energy is the future. Countries all over the world have been investing more into nuclear energy, for good reason. Nuclear energy is the most powerful and safe energy source there is right now.
Nuclear energy is way safer than any fossil fuel. Many more people die per year working with fossil fuels than nuclear energy. Nuclear energy results in 99.7% less deaths than coal, 99.6% less than oil, and 97.5% less than gas per year. Fossil fuels are also responsible for 74.1% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in 2019, this not only damages our environment but it also contributes to climate change. Nuclear energy produces very small amounts of gases and liquids. Nuclear accidents are not a threat either. Nuclear power plants are constantly under surveillance and have strict regulations imposed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission which ensures the safety of all nuclear reactors in the United States.
“An operating nuclear power plant produces very small amounts of radioactive gases and liquids, as well as small amounts of direct radiation.” The NRC said. “If you lived within 50 miles of a nuclear power plant, you would receive an average radiation dose of about 0.01 millirem per year. To put this in perspective, the average person in the United States receives an exposure of 300 millirem per year from natural background sources of radiation.”
No other energy source comes close to the power of nuclear power. The uranium that is used in power plants can produce many hundreds of times more energy than fossil fuels, solar, or wind. Nuclear power is way more efficient than other energy sources ever could be.
“One uranium fuel pellet – about the size of a gummy bear – creates as much energy as one ton of coal, 149 gallons of oil or 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas.” The Nuclear Energy Institute said. “A single nuclear power reactor generates enough electricity on average to power over 760,000 homes without emitting any greenhouse gases – that’s more than enough to power a city the size of Philadelphia. In fact, America’s 93 nuclear plants produce enough electricity to power 75 million homes.”
