Get Ready for Graduation

Here are some tips and guidelines for making graduation a success.

To make sure everything runs smoothly for graduation, here are some tips:

ARRIVING AT RUPP

All graduates should plan to arrive at Rupp Arena at 6:30 p.m.  Anyone arriving after 7 p.m. will not be allowed to march. Remember to take traffic and parking into account.

Upon arriving at Rupp Arena, graduates will report directly to Door 9 (via the Manchester Street parking lot). Parking in that lot is free for graduates. Guests should plan to enter Rupp Arena through the main door (via High Street). Parking in the High Street lot is $5.

Rupp and FCPS security will conduct a search of each person entering. It is not advisable to bring purses or backpacks. Because of new security procedures, check-in may take longer than usual.

DRESS CODE

Male students should plan to wear dress slacks, a dress shirt and tie, and dress shoes (no tennis shoes).

Female students should plan to wear a dress, skirt or pantsuit, dress shoes or sandals (no flip-flops).

Caps should be worn on the center/top of the head, and not on the back, so it’s a good idea to try it on ahead of time. Students are not allowed to decorate or put any messages on the top of the cap.

Tassels go on the right of the cap at the beginning of the ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, students will be directed to move their tassels to the left. Only stoles, tassels, and medallions that have been approved by Fayette County Board of Education are permissible.

ACCESSIBILITY

Handicapped access is only available at the High Street entrance. There is no elevator, but there are wheelchair ramps in Sections 22, 23, 30, 32, 33. Strollers are not permitted in these sections. Strollers should be parked in the corridor.

APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR

Remember that families would like to be able to hear each name as it is called, so people are encouraged not to interrupt the ceremony by cheering. Please hold your cheers and applause until all diplomas have been awarded.

Any student who causes a disruption while crossing the stage to receive the diploma or after receiving the diploma will be cut from the graduation video per Fayette County Board of Education.

Rupp Arena does not allow helium balloons, air horns, tambourines, whistles, beach balls, or other items that could disrupt the ceremony.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES

Students will receive their diplomas with the left hand while shaking hands with the Board Member with the right hand. Three photos will be taken: at the flag before receiving the diploma, during the handshake, and again while walking down the ramp. Remember to briefly pause for each of these photos.
