Dunbar Drama Department Presents Legally Blonde Jr.
A sneak preview of what audiences can expect to see in the upcoming spring musical
Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde: the Musical will be performed by the Dunbar Drama Department Mar. 18-22.
Legally Blonde follows the story of Delta Nu sorority president Elle Woods as she crosses the country on a mission to find love at Harvard Law School. After discovering how the law can be used to help others, she uses her newfound skills to defend a workout-queen in a murder trial, defying the odds and proving that pink can save the day.
Because Elle is the leading role, it has been double cast, meaning that there are two stars who will rotate performances. The actresses are junior Addy Bell and senior Ashton Stathis, who are both excited to perform the role.
The casts have been rehearsing and building their sets for months. Even though it is long hours on the stage, the students who are involved don’t mind.
“Each day we work on different things like practicing music and choreography,” said junior Diamond Cotton, who plays the role of Pilar. “It never gets boring because we mix things up.”
Unfortunately the recent “snowpocalypse” and missed school days posed a threat to the progression of rehearsals; however, the cast members continued to hang out during the break, becoming close “like real sorority sisters” according to senior Hannah D’Eramo, who plays the role of Serena.
There will be several opportunities to see the play, and there will be both in-school and public performances. The directors are Ms. Brooke Noe and Mrs. Alicia Henning.
