Take a Trip to a Virtual Museum

Integrate some culture into your quarantine by visiting virtual museums.

We’re all stuck at home because of the COVID-19 outbreak, so boredom and feelings of being trapped are making our world seem smaller by the hour. However, museums worldwide are attempting to combat by opening their doors with free online tours and exhibits.

Instead of wasting my time, I have already spent some of it learning about the ancient Greek vision of beauty at the Louvre through the Vénus de Milo.

Here are some of the most popular online museums.

The Louvre
You would normally have to travel 4,181 miles to only see the outside of the museum. If you looked at every piece in Louvre for 30 seconds, it would take you 100 days to look at everything in the museum from the Law Code of Hammurabi to the Mona Lisa, the Louvre has the largest collection of art in the world located in Paris.

The Smithsonian Natural History Museum

The online tour of the Natural History Museum will take you through a 3-D experience through the exhibits. Although nothing will compare to seeing the skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex in person, what the Smithsonian is offering is a close second.

The British Museum of the World

The experience provided by the British Museum is very different than the rest. They provide a complete timeline of their works in order instead of showing a 3-D model of the building. The British Museum’s goal is to show you everything involving human history, culture, and art throughout the centuries. Work in the virtual museum dates all the way back to 2,000,000 BC.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Its doors have been open since 1870, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is the largest museum in the United States. Normally traveling to New York would be essential to visit the Met, but the public Met 360 Project allows virtual visits.
