Olivia Canales Commits to Texas Christian University

Texas Christian University volleyball head coach Prentice Lewis announced the signing of National Letters of Intent by Olivia Canales and another hitter from McKinney, Texas, to the 2015 incoming class.

“It’s the perfect fit for me,” said Canales. “Its size and location in Fort Worth, Texas are exactly what I was looking for.”

Over the years, Canales was recruited by, and in some cases offered, some great volleyball programs from exceptional schools. Those included the University of Kentucky, the University of California—Los Angeles, Duke University, Ohio State University, Penn State University, the University of Louisville, the University of Florida, the University of Kansas, Pepperdine University, California State University—Long Beach, the University of Minnesota, Purdue University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Yale University and last but not least, Texas Christian University.

Out of all of these offers, there were a few reasons TCU was Canales’s final pick.

“The people at TCU really stood out to me. Everyone I met was so nice and happy to be there. The type of person that goes to TCU is the type of person I want to be around and get to know. Also, on all of my visits to TCU, I never felt like just another recruit. I feel like I was already part of the team which was really cool,” said Canales.

“They finally got my attention when they decided to start a sand volleyball program. TCU was the first school to offer me both a scholarship to play indoor volleyball and a spot on their team,” Canales stated.

“Olivia Canales is an extremely athletic player that hits a heavy ball,” Coach Prentice Lewis said. “She will also be a great impact player to TCU and we are looking forward to watching her grow the next four years.”

Along with competing and being named the MVP of her team at PLD, Canales plans on majoring in Pre-Med with a focus in health care ethics.
