Family Career and Community Leaders of America at PLD
The national non-profit organization allows students to develop leadership skills, explore career opportunities and make a difference in the community.
PLD’s FCCLA club is sponsored by family and consumer science teachers, Mrs. Monica Harbut, Mrs. Andrea Baker, and Mrs. Rhonda Jackson. Local club members engage in community service, and gain information for college and careers readiness.
“We do community service projects and peer education projects such as posters you might see in the hallway about breast cancer awareness,” said senior FCCLA president Elizabeth Howard.
Other projects include visiting the UK children’s hospital, fundraising for Pennies for Patients and collecting food donations during the holidays.
“My favorite part is seeing our students come together, and seeing the compassion and the heart that they have for others,” said Mrs. Harbut. “They’ve done a great job making sure they’re making an impact and a difference with others.”
FCCLA’s upcoming community service project is supporting the March of Dimes by fundraising in classrooms. The March of Dimes helps research to stop birth defects and other health issues from occurring in premature babies. Although the local walk doesn’t take place until May, fundraising will begin in March.

PLD’ FCCLA T-shirt is sold in support of the club. “Respek” is an allusion to a song.
FCCLA posters line the halls of Dunbar. Shirt are $10 and can be purchased in Room 801.
FCCLA will be placing March of Dime donation bucket in every classroom.
