Travis Shuler, the senior goalie on the Dunbar varsity soccer team, officially signed with Lindsey Wilson last Thurs., Apr. 21.

Originally, Shuler planned on playing for Georgetown College on a soccer scholarship. However, he decided to focus on his career pathway and declined the initial option to play soccer in college. After Shuler had come to terms with giving up the game, he participated in an indoor game and decided he couldn’t give it up.

“I just decided that I can’t stay away from the game,” expressed Shuler. “Lindsey Wilson has a great feel to it.”

Student Athlete of the Week

The Lindsey Wilson coaches also played a major role in Shuler’s decision.

“I’ve been in contact with Ray Wells, the head coach. I’ve also been communicating with the [current] goalie and assistant coaches, and they’re really nice and super helpful,” said Shuler.

Coach Wells has coached the Men’s soccer team for over 25 years, and he has helped the team acquire a .895 winning percentage—the highest winning percentage of all time under the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Men’s Soccer. Shuler will be adding to the team’s incredible record in the fall.

In terms of education, he will be studying law enforcement and criminal justice. Shuler plans on becoming a police officer.
